Neuromarketing and You, the Consumer
As the economy evolves and consumers purchasing habits change with time, marketers have found amazing ways to try to stay ahead of the game. I read a very interesting article today by MP Dunleavy of MSN Money, about the brain games that are played very well by today’s marketers. As consumers, I think all of us should be aware of the realities of today’s advertising world.
Neuromarketing is Getting Big
Ever heard of neuromarketing? It’s pretty likely you’ve never heard a word about this movement, but it is growing by leaps and bounds. Neuromarketing is the process of looking for a unique combination of ingredients that will elevate a product or brand in the buyer’s mind. Biometric measures and in-depth interviewing of potential buyers are used to help find the perfect fit. Does this mean neuromarketing is brainwashing? Not at all, in fact it seems marketers have gotten past that point in many ways and gone to a more sophisticated system.
Use Wise Spending Habits
There is nothing wrong with the neuromarketing campaigns that big companies are pouring money into now. In fact, the system has proven that it works and helps them build up their bottom line. At the same time, as individuals we must always think about our personal finances first. Smart spending habits are not created overnight, and they must be practiced often. Before you fork over extra money for a name brand product you don’t really need, think about future expenditures you will be having. Never make a decision too quickly when deciding whether to purchase a product or not. Taking your time and thinking it over is always a wise decision. Neuromarketing is here to stay, so as consumers we must adapt just as the corporations have.
